About Sof Omar Cave

Sof Omar a UNESCO world heritage site is the longest cave system in Ethiopia and one of the most significant limestone cave networks in Africa. Carved by the Web River over millions of years, the cave stretches more than 15 kilometers underground. Inside, towering limestone pillars and vast chambers resemble natural cathedrals. Local Oromo communities consider the cave spiritually important and have used parts of it historically as religious sites. What makes Sof Omar special is not just size. It is the combination of geology, mythology, and sacred landscape embedded within the cave system.
